BIG PERSONALITY
Wilkestock Charity Music Festival is fiercely independent and dedicated
to raising money for two charities, Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research
and Keswick Mountain Rescue.
Screen Shot 2015-07-28 at 12.50.04Wilkestock began its life as an outdoor party for a few friends in 2006 by brothers Tom and Olly Wilkes. Having grown through word-of-mouth and due to the great success of the event, it’s got a bit bigger since those days. Seven years on and the festival still retains it’s home-grown ethos and commitment to championing new, local and international artists. Last year attracted over 1,500 people to the Wilkes’ brother’s fields of Watton, Hertfordshire with more increases on attendance expected year on year. Gone are the days of a few friends camping in a field over night with a sprinkling of local bands, Wilkestock is even bigger than ever and the festival has extended to three action packed nights, split over a number of stages and venues due to popular demand and lots of acts wanting to get involved.

Last years festival had something for every mood spread across the 5 very different stages listed below, this year promises to be even bigger!

The Main Stage
Showcasing the best local talent alongside big UK names.

Acoustic Stage
Every day we present a smaller, more intimate acoustic atmosphere second to none.

Mutual Party Dance Stage

NEW! The Bangorang Stage
We welcome you to a weekend of Bangoranging beats and breaks from a plethora of electronic genres. We aim to keep you suitably satisfied for a stomping good time.

Hat Club

House of Hog
Saturday night come and get a little bit ridiculous with the HogSozzle resident DJs.

Rock-up & Rinse Stage
Everybody gets a chance to play live at a festival! Register at ‘The Lodge’ and you could be on stage that day. (see ‘Line-up’ for more information)

Cinema Tent
We’ll be showing movies during the daytime if you want to kick back with that outdoor living room vibe!

PLUS

Stalls
There are places to buy mouthwatering food on site from BBQ to Indian to Caribbean to Hog Roast including a fully stocked, reasonably priced licensed ‘Ski Lodge’ bar with a new addition of the huge 360 degree bar which is not to be missed! To emphasise the Wilkestock fun factor there are lots of crazy things on the day to see and take part in such as an on site cinema, street entertainers, bouncy castles, slides, bungee run, sumo suits, old skool vendors/games, dance tent, chill out DJ/band and teepee area, food and vintage stalls.
Wilkestock is fiercely independent – there are no sponsorship deals, corporate influences, inflated prices or hidden charges. The festival runs on a completely non-profit basis as it has for the last 7 years.

Dub Pistols @ Glastonbury 2015

Glade-Stage_2015_1200x900Dub Pistols are set to play the most famous festival in the world this friday on the amazing Glade stage at 3pm. Its always one of the highlights of the festival season and last year saw them take the roof off the area

The Glade was spawned from the Avalon Field back in the late ’90s. In 1999 the Avalon stage featured acts like Squarepusher, Banco de Gaia, Electric Groove Temple, System Seven and Dreadzone. These shared the stage with more traditional world music and folk acts like Pops Mohamed, Peat Bog Fairies, Martin Carthy and Roy Harper. It was a proper eclectically mixed festival stage and exemplified the buzz and excitement of the blending genres of music at the time.

Glade-Sunset-2Michael Eavis recognised the Avalon stage music was moving away from its usual pure ‘folk’ music and he and Luke Piper, the area organiser, decided to start a new area further along the railway towards the Other Stage. Using the small triangle of poplar trees and mature woodland tucked below the embankment they named it the Glade.

Inspired by new cutting-edge music and technology they designed and built unusual stages and structures to fit the space and experimented with surround sound, projections and visuals in a totally new way. The stage hosted relatively unknown and underground acts as well as the likes of Orbital, Eat Static, System 7 and The Orb. True to the ‘free party vibe’ The Glade Lounge tent has always had a core psy trance and chill out programme. The Avalon crew still run Glade as well and it’s now a whole area. In 2011 it hosted the Sprit of 71 to mark the first Glastonbury Fayre in 1971.
In 2014, two new venues – the Spaceport and The Spike – were introduced to the Glade area. Spaceport plays on the extra-terrestrial, futuristic and virtual-reality with some nightclub glam thrown in for good measure. The stage and bar is actually inside a spaceport terminal and its great interstellar soundproofing gives the full benefit of an amazing late night line-up.

The Spike, hidden in another woodland space nearby has been decked out with a bandstand, walkways and bridges. Like Yoda’s Den it’s an enchanted ferny dell with twinkling, fairylights and lush coloured washes in a swirly mist of dry ice smoke. A haze of Spike cocktails will reveal some of the most unexpected highlights of the festival (Aphex Twin played last year until 3 o’ clock Sunday morning).

Check out the Glade Area Glastonbury Facebook page.

Dub Pistols Barry Ashworth will also be making an appearance on the GreenPeace stage on thursday night at midnight a DJ set not to be missed

Dub Pistols Nominated for Best Live act AIM Awards

10624921_740626472653210_7092639576089784808_nDub Pistols have been nominated for a second time for Best live act at this year AIM awards
Vote for the AIM Best Live Act 2015 Now!

No surprises here – most of us live and breathe for live music, which is why we’re so excited to be hosting the AIM Best Live Act award again for 2015, in Association with Jack Daniel’s!

Each year, the AIM awards highlight the best and brightest independent artists who have toured in the last year, and we’re stoked that we have the opportunity to join in on the round of applause for all of them.

We spend a lot of our time outside the office at gigs big and small. It never gets old, don’t get us wrong, but it does mean that when we see an act that puts in a little something extra, we take notice. This year’s list features 56 incredible independent artists as the nominees for the Best Live Act of 2015. These are artists that have made us cry, scream, and dance till we’re drenched with their live show.

Now it’s your turn – you know that enthusiasm you’ve got when you’re trying to get an artist to come back out after their encore, in hopes that they might sing just one more song? Channel that feeling – and use it to digitally cheer them on with your vote!

http://blog.songkick.com/2015/06/16/best-live-act-2015-vote/

Now in it’s fifth year, previous winners of the award include Enter Shikari, The Prodigy, Frank Turner and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. This year, the nominees include Future Islands (who will play their 1000th show next month), now-defunct The Knife (R.I.P.), and every music blog’s Best of 2014 favourites The War on Drugs and Run the Jewels, alongside 52 other outstanding acts.

Voting is open now, and runs through until the 29th June. The final nominees will be released in August, with the grand victors of this year’s Best Live Act in Association with Jack Daniel’s award announced at the AIM Awards ceremony in London on 8th September 2015.

Lemonfest Live review

Dub Pistols recently hit Lemonfest hard read the full review bellow

Review by Steve Muscutt

Photography by Bruce Benson www.241photography.co.uk

So, it was time for the main act of the evening, we were fortunate enough to see Dub Pistols in Exeter in 2014 and they absolutely raised the roof back then, so how would they sound on an outdoor stage in what was looking like a very wet evening….well, read on to find out!

From the moment the lone trumpet player took to the stage to play the opening notes of their first track to the moment they took a bow and left the stage, they had the place bouncing, I don’t mean a couple of people bobbing their heads, I’m talking about the whole place jumping about! Dub Pistols are THE party band and if you have ever heard any of their material you’ll understand why, they rock! Effortlessly fusing Dub, Jungle, Hip Hop, Disco & Electronica they have been dazzling audiences all over the world for years. As well as being the driving force behind the band, Barry Ashworth is also a renowned DJ who has graced many turntables in countries such as Australia, Singapore, Serbia, Dubai, Thailand, Germany, Croatia, Italy and France. We chatted to Barry earlier in the day and I asked him what kept the band so tight and on form as every time we have seen them play, they look like they’re having a right royal knees up on the stage, he politely declined to answer the question, must just be a good heady dose of adrenalin, energy and the desire to give the crowd a kick ass show that they’ll be talking and reminiscing about for many months to come. Highlights for me included some of their legendary tracks such as ‘Mucky Weekend’, ‘Back to Daylight’ and a few lifted form their new album ‘Return of the Pistoleros’, released on June 1st which is available now as a signed CD or LP via Rob Da Bank’s label Sunday Best Recordings.

What started off as a project 18 years ago with various musicians jamming over the top of Barry’s output has slowly but very surely metamorphosed into a super tight, festival loving live machine that has fans the whole world over coming back for more year after year. They arrived, the played, they conquered, all hail Barry Ashworth and Seanie Tee and what is becoming one of the finest back lines of musicians in the industry, go forth and buy their new album, hell, buy all of their albums, they’re all brilliant and I bet you’ll be up and grooving to the output in no time at all! They left the rain soaked stage to rapturous applause and cheers, no doubt looking forward to playing more festivals throughout the land in the coming months….
