Barry Ashworth – Barry’s Flying Circus 2021 In Aid Of Tonic Rider

Tonic Music For Mental Health patron and Dub Pistols front man Barry Ashworth will take to the skies for the charity’s 3rd annual flagship fundraiser Barry Ashworth’s Flying Circus, aiming to raise £80k in aid of Tonic Rider, a unique, free mental health programme for the music community.

Taking place across 28th and 29th September at Aerosuperbatics in Cirencester, the fundraiser sees Barry Ashworth host a ‘Collective Wing Walk for Mental Health’, with over 40 fellow wingwalkers, including Bez (Happy Mondays), Sian Evans (Kosheen), Nick Reynolds (Alabama 3), Derran Brownson (EMF), heroic amputee Jim Ashworth-Beaumont and more being confirmed.

Barry’s Flying Circus will see each wing walker on top of a Boeing Stearman Biplane, performing a series of flypasts, zoom climbs, steep dives and banks and even loop-the-loops. Last year’s wing walk raised over £36,000 with 18 wing walkers. This year’s fundraiser will be even more ambitious and will see Barry and his team of wing walkers collectively fundraise with a target of £80,000 that would smash the previous record.

Having recently lost friends and fellow artists to suicide, Barry Ashworth knows only too well how touring pressure, excess and exhaustion can have devastating consequences. He calls on supporters to donate to support the fundraiser: “I’m honoured to launch my Flying Circus Fundraiser this year of all years, because I know the difference it makes to vulnerable people in music, like me, who need help and support to recover as we come out of lockdown. I’ve experienced the darker side of the music industry – addiction, depression, anxiety, and exhaustion, so if my fundraising for Tonic Rider with our wing walk for mental health can help save just one life, it will have been worth every second I have invested. We need to hit our £80k target, so please give what you can today to ensure the music community get the mental health support they so need and help create lasting change for the industry.”

Bez will be wing walking for Tonic for his second consecutive year, he added his support for the cause

“Everyone going through life suffers highs and lows, and when you’re at one of those low points, it’s good to know that there’s a bit of support out there for you. The most important thing is not being afraid to speak out and talk, because when you share your problems, it always lightens the load.”

The fundraiser for Tonic Rider will allow the charity to continue providing free, direct, practical mental health support, such as virtual peer groups led by Adam Ficek (psychotherapist, Babyshambles), emotional coping skills, Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), suicide prevention education, mindfulness, and an array of digital resources and advice for musicians and venues through the lockdown and beyond into 2022.

Tonic Rider will also be working virtually with venues and eventually rolled out physically to green rooms, festivals and Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) members, with the aim to include the Tonic Rider on all rider lists, venue posters and via ‘Tonic Hubs’ at partner live events. Tonic Rider also launches a research study led by Jeordie Shenton (PhD researcher, Goldsmiths) and Adam Ficek (Psychotherapist, DPsych researcher) into the mental health of music industry professionals, to inform ongoing preventative work and support services.

Please support Barry and the Tonic Rider programme to help make a difference in the music industry.

Mucky Weekender Music Festival Fri 10th and Sat 11th September 2021
An Indian summer, Ibizan Vibes and Amazing Music!
Mucky Weekender Music festival – curated by Dub Pistols’ legendary frontman Barry Ashworth – returns for its second year this September, to a stunning new location set within 28 acres of private parkland near Winchester.
The festival is named after one of Dub Pistols’ biggest and best selling singles, Mucky Weekend. The band decided to create and host their own festival in 2019, using it as a way to connect with their fans, The Pistolero family, and showcase both established and new musical artists over the two days.
Barry Ashworth says, “Everyone’s a star at Mucky Weekender. I’m a strong believer that the crowd are just as important as the performers. Everyone has a smile on their face and are full of love. It’s the kind of festival you could go to alone and leave with 1000 new friends. We are really excited to host this event and can’t wait to put a smile back on peoples’ faces”.
World class DJs and live performers have been carefully curated to maximise the party vibe, with some of the best music, past, present and future. Stages will feature Happy Mondays icon and indie national treasure Bez, who will be bringing his ‘Bez’s Acid House Party’, Terry Farley, The Prodigy’s Leeroy Thornhill, Krafty Kuts, The Clash/BAD’s Don Letts and many more. The main stage has live performances from festival hosts Dub Pistols, electronic music group Freestylers and festival favourites The Cuban Brothers amongst others.
The new site in Winchester could not be more beautiful, set in 28 acres of private parkland and stunning countryside. Says Barry, ‘our ethos is very much one of ‘leave no trace’, and judging by our first year it’s an ethos the crowd fully embrace too. Our last site was left cleaner on departure than when we entered it.’
This philosophy has continued when considering how to keep the site COVID safe, without compromising the relaxed and free spirited atmosphere of the festival. The organisers have taken the decision to limit the festival to 3000 ( 60% of capacity) in order to help revelers maintain social distancing.
In addition, other precautions have been taken, including walk through scanners to avoid physical contact on entry. Great care has been taken to install top quality facilities, including 5 star food outlets and posh showers & loos, which will be cleaned regularly by a dedicated team operating onsite throughout the festival. The big top will be open-sided to make free movement and social distancing easier, and the bar will operate a oneway system designed for safeguarding.
Whilst soaking up the atmosphere Mucky Weekenders will also be treated to an array of street performers, including magic, comedy and an extra special art installation nestled in the woods called “The Shack”, created especially for the festival by Arlen Figgis, son of renowned British director Mike Figgis.

Nozstock

Nozstock The Hidden Valley presents: Into The Valley – 7th August 2021. ✨🌈
Tickets on sale now at www.nozstock.com/buy-tickets-online/ 🎟
Did you really think that we would be able to go another year without giving you all a little bit of Nozstock magic in your life?! No siree! We gift to you an intimate one day event with camping, brimming with musical delights, tasty grub and creative workshops 💥
Nozstock veterans should be well aware of the Mythology of Noz: what started off as an intimate BBQ for family and friends in the front garden of our ramshackle farmhouse quickly grew into a festival, sort of by accident. So, we thought since the full show can’t happen due to Covid-19 restrictions it was the perfect opportunity to put on a much smaller event for you lovely lot to enjoy!
And we really pulled out all the stops – you can expect music from Dub Pistols, Danny Byrd, Ed Solo, Mr Tea and the Minions, Disco Panther and more! 🔥
Not to mention, we have Hereford’s ultimate meat boutique The Beefy Boys on hand to fill those hungry stomachs. Oh, AND we have free arts and crafts stalls for the little Nozstockers to get involved with! But that’s not all, head on over to www.nozstock.com/intothevalley for more info and lineup news.
Why not a full-blown Nozstock bonanza, you ask?! 👀
We hear ya, but with the lack of government-backed Covid-19 insurance and ongoing supplier issues, it wasn’t possible to bring you Nozstock in its full glorious entirety this year.
That being said, who’s to say we can’t still have a little slice of the action that we all love this summer? With the lifting of all restrictions on the horizon, we are confident and committed that we can host a much smaller scale and safe event to celebrate Nozstock this summer. Tickets will be limited but don’t worry we are still planning to have the whole damn cake next year.
We simply can’t wait to have you back in our fields soon!
