Carlisle musicians to make homecoming gig with the Dub Pistols

TWO Carlisle musicians are set to make a return to their home city for a special gig with a group described as ‘the best live band’ by legendary outfit, The Happy Mondays.
Following their unmissable performance in Carlisle last Spring, and a sold-out autumn 2023 tour, Dub Pistols are returning to the road which includes a very welcomed return to Carlisle’s very own The Brickyard on Friday, March 15.

The band’s line-up includes two local Carlisle musicians – Josh Thomas, returns behind the kit, and is joined this year by trombonist Tom Mossop.

Tom, from the Stanwix area, was part of the band’s original line-up in the 90s, recording albums and touring the world, sharing the stage with the likes of Terry Hall from The Specials.

Due to family commitments, Tom took a break from performing in 2012 and worked for luxury fashion brand Stella McCartney, but made a triumphant return to the stage last year for the band’s sold out tour schedule.
The upcoming March performance will be an ‘unmissable’ homecoming show for both musicians.

“I grew up here in Carlisle and, when I’m not out touring, still live here today,” said Josh.

“The Brickyard homecoming gig is a pretty important slot for me as the venue was previously owned by my grandad, legendary local musician, Mick Potts.”

Mick Potts was one of the biggest players on Carlisle’s entertainment scene and was leader of The Gateway Jazz Band – one of the north’s leading bands at the time.

The band played gigs all over the country, including a performance for Prince Philip at Windsor Castle.

Mick also made three series of Take the Mick, a jazz show for Border TV in the 1970s, alongside occasionally presenting on BBC Radio Cumbria.

The Dub Pistols are arriving in Carlisle on Friday, March 15 and tickets are available to book online.
